Psalms for All Seasons

Prayer for a Friend

309962657_497780d846
I pray for my friend,
Whose spirit is crushed
By unreal expectations
She can’t measure up
She hasn’t the tools
Her weapons are weak and broken

Yet lofty birds seek
To sweep down and steal
To name her and to blame her
Her self-esteem gone
And still she holds on
Lord, this is how You made her

I lift my heartsong to You
O Spirit will You redeem
And heal the broken fragments
My failures and shattered dreams
Glory to You, O Father
I rely upon Your Word
Your name be praised, Dear Savior
In gladness and gratitude
I lift my heartsong to You

She struggles alone
At school and at home
Father, she doesn’t know You
But I am Your child
So humbly I pray
Cover her with Your favor

You fashion us all
The feeble and strong
Each one a different journey
Your wisdom prevails
So in You we’ll trust
And follow with hearts burning

I lift my heartsong to You
O Spirit will You redeem
And heal the broken fragments
My failures and shattered dreams
Glory to You, O Father
I rely upon Your Word
Your name be praised, Dear Savior
In gladness and gratitude
I lift my heartsong to You.

Bless her, Dear Savior
And she will be blessed
Heal her and she will be healed
Give her Your shelter
Hold and protect her
Show her that Your love is real

Out of the ashes
Let beauty burst forth
And Your strength spring up from fear
Guide her today, Lord
And show her Your way
Bring laughter instead of tears.

I lift my heartsong to You
O Spirit will You redeem
And heal the broken fragments
My failures and shattered dreams
Glory to You, O Father
I rely upon Your Word
Your name be praised, Dear Savior
In gladness and gratitude
I lift my heartsong to You.
